About

Stock Predictor began as a graduate research project in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University in August, 2010. Steve Spagnola is the sole author who applied his Master's Research in Artificial Intelligence with financial markets as a course project for CS 6780: Advanced Machine Learning. The project's initial intent was to predict stock price volatility as a function of news unexpectedness, but later evolved to predict price direction to generate better-than-chance signals for a stock's expected intraday change. Using this technology, Steve spent the earlier part of 2011 to develop trading strategies from the intraday signals, running the algorithm live in July, 2011 and maintaining it since then.
